The lobby of this natural sciences laboratory
building is a space for comingling between the university researchers and the nearby
residential community, providing the shared programs of café, conference
center, lecture hall, reception, daycare and a restaurant.
A series of curvilinear elements, made of raw earth material reclaimed from the excavation of what was once a brownfield site, form benches, counters, desks, and walls. They provide direction to the multiple flows of people and carry some of the tactile material of the laboratories above down to the public realm of the lobby.
