BROOKLYN HEIGHTS TOWNHOUSE
This Federal-era townhouse, situated on a majestic street in historic Brooklyn Heights, is home to a multi-generational family including a ceramic artist and philosopher, their daughter and her husband, and their two young girls. The house is designed to expand and contract via pivoting doors, sliding panels, and a turning staircase to allow the family members to come together or find places of quiet solidarity. Weaving together the original house with the four-story rear extension, we carried a palette of natural materials, true to the family’s Japanese roots, through the house.
